Based on the work of the same name by Frank Schätzing, the series tells the war of humanity against a mysterious threat that comes from the depths of the sea
New chapter of the alliance between Rai, Zdf and France TV to bring serial productions to their audiences that have nothing to envy to American TV series. A chapter that, this time, passes for an ecological thriller: in fact, the filming of Il quinto Giorno , the new series resulting from the international co-production between Italy, Germany and France, has begun in Italy . The three public broadcasters, in this case, will work with ORF, SRF, Scandinavia’s Nordic Entertainment Group and Hulu Japan .
The series derives from the book of the same name by Frank Schätzing (published in Italy from the North ), translated into twenty-seven languages and with 4.5 million copies sold in Germany alone: as mentioned, the central theme of the eight episodes of fifty minutes each will be that ecology and the consequences of human activity on the environment. All in a disturbingly thriller key.
The fifth day will in fact tell the war that humanity will have to face against a new dangerous and mysterious enemy that has emerged from the depths of the oceans, a consequence of the indiscriminate behavior of human beings: it will be a group of scientists who will have to remedy the emergency and save the humanity.
Nourished the cast of the series, consisting of Cécile de France (The New Pope, The Young Pope), Alexander Karim (The Lawyer), Leonie Benesch (Babylon Berlin, The Crown), Barbara Sukowa (Hannah Arendt, Gloria Bell, Deux), Takuya Kimura (2046, I Come With the Rain), Krista Kosonen (Blade Runner 2049), Takehiro Hira (Giri / Haji), Lydia Wilson (Flack, Black Mirror), Joshua Odjick (Unsettled), Eidin Jalali (Para-We Are King), Jack Greenlees (Star Wars – The Last Jedi), Dutch Johnson (Veep, NCIS: LA), Sharon Duncan-Brewster(Star Wars: Rogue One).
